This "Albert Gilles" lamp was one of the original hand made pieces. The company still makes smaller versions of this lamp that sell for what we are asking for this lamp. This lamp is signed on the front lower right. It measures 44 and one half inches tall to the top of its finial. The base is14 inches wide and 3 inches deep at the center, and 18 inches wide and 8 inches deep at the base. The original shade measures 25 inches wide, 18 inches high and 14 inches deep. This bio was taken from http://www.albertgilles-copper-art.com. Its founder, Albert Gilles, was born in Paris in 1895. He was, at the age of 11, introduced to the art of repousse (metal embossing) by his aunt, and very quickly, this hobby became a passion. Crossing the Atlantic in the 1930's to benefit from the advantage of the ¨new world¨, he then put his talent to serve people like Walt Disney and Pope Pius XII. He also decorated numerous churches across Canada, the United States and even Jamaica. He died in 1979, and since then, his family carries on his work. His artistic humility reflected plainly when he answered to those who praised his artistic talents: "I am not an artist, just an artisan."
